Water Conditioner and Treatment System

MagSert Magnetic Water Conditioners

What is water conditioning?

Water conditioning is the process of eliminating scale and build up in pipes. Magnetic water conditioners – our MagSert product line – changes the behavior of the minerals in the water pipes so calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, magnesium, aluminum, silica, copper, iron, and magnesium silicate do not adhere or bind to the walls of water pipes. Build up of scale or fouling leads to costly repairs, increased maintenance & cleaning costs, and decreased water quality.

In comparison, chelation conditioning uses an agent to bond to minerals so they don’t scale but can make some metals more harmful, while reverse osmosis systems remove contaminants using a semi-permeable membrane but this process also causes mineral depletion.

What are water conditioners used in? Where are water conditioners used?

Oue MagSert Water Conditioners are used in residential and commercial water systems in homes, apartments, condos, garages, pool houses, retail stores, restaurants, hotels, golf courses, farms, ranches, and small businesses across America.  MagSert Water Conditioners can be installed on most water systems including showers, toilets, sinks, gardening hoses, washing machines, fountains, ice machines, hydrants, ponds, dishwashers, automatic livestock waterers, urinals, HVAC systems, swamp coolers, Humidifiers, food service equipment, ice machines, refrigeration, coffee makers and other hot drink equipment, steam cookers, commercial washers, dishwashers, auto washes, agricultural and irrigation systems, swimming pools and spas, laundromat equipment, ranges with steam, standalone water dispensers, and other systems.

What are the benefits of using a water conditioner?

Water conditioning includes many benefits:

Eliminates Bacteria -

  • "The maximum disinfection level for E. coli (bacteria) attained this study was 82.2%...and with a slight increase in both magnetic flux [total magnetic field]
    and time exposure, the disinfection
level could get to at least 99%."

Decreases Fouling or Scale Build Up -

  • “The study also concluded the following, The MF (magnetic field) reduced the calcite fouling reached 38.2%-64.3% by changing water quality parameters to trigger the transformation rate of CaCO3 crystal from compact calcite to looser aragonite, as well as increase the unit-cell parameters and chemical bond lengths of calcite and aragonite. The MF also decreased the content of silica fouling (silica and silicate) reached 22.4-46.3% by reducing the concentration of soluble silica and accelerating the flocculation settlement to form large size solid particles in BW.”

Removes Chlorine -

  • “Under magnetic treatment, monochloramine (a byproduct of
chlorine breakdown) was reduced by 13% after 24 hours of exposure, and the pool water was subsequently shown to contain 26.7% more free chlorine after monochloramine was removed through the addition of excess hypochlorite.”

Reduces Maintenance & Repair Costs -

  • “In fact, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners estimates water damage claims cost insurers approximately $13 billion per year.” Water damage claims include freezing pipes, clogged drains, sewage backups, and clogged HVAC drain lines.

Saves Money and Energy -

  • Water conditioning can save as much as 30 percent in energy
costs which leads to substantial cost savings for families and businesses.
  • “A layer of scale just 1/8 inch thick can cause as much as 20-25
    percent loss in efficiency
    - heat lost up the boiler stack.”

What are signs that I need water conditioning?

There are signs that your water may have some issues from
hardwater, fouling, or scaling. Some may be more noticeable than others:

  • Frequent Breakdowns
  • Increased Maintenance
  • Increased Energy Consumption
  • Harder to Clean and Need to be Cleaned More Often
  • Stains, Spots, Crusts, or Films on Dishes, Drains, and Faucets
  • Lack of Soap Lather (put your tap water and a small amount of dish soap and shake – if there is not a sudsy foam – you have hard water)
  • Dry and/or Itchy Skin
  • Dry and Frizzy Hair
  • Water has an Unpleasant Smell

What is hard water? Is hard water common? Where is the worst hard water in America?

What is Hard Water -

Hard water is water with a saturation of dissolved minerals that were picked up through soil and rock. Hard water is not harmful to humans but the scale build up and mineral sediments do cause damage to pipes, make things harder to clean, and increase energy costs. Hard water is from the saturation of minerals which will also reduce water flow and pressure, cause clogs, and lead to accelerated corrosion.

Hard Water is a Common Issue -

According to the U.S. Geological Survey: 85% of U.S. homes have water of some level of hardness. Anything above 180 mg/L is considered very hard water. These values are commonly translated into grains per gallon (GPG) by softener manufacturers and water tests, using the following rough scale:
• 0 to 3.5 GPG = soft water
• 3.5 to 7 GPG = moderately hard water
• 7 to 10.5 GPG = hard water
• 10.5+ GPG = very hard water

Hard Water Issues -

The Environmental Protection Agency shows these six cities have the hardest water in the country:

  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • San Antonio, TX
  • Tampa, FL

Is water conditioning the same thing as water softening?

The phrase water conditioning is used synonymously with water softeners
but the phrases mean different things. Water softeners use ion exchange to
replace one set of materials for another such as removing magnesium and iron
and replacing those minerals with sodium or potassium. Water conditioning is changing or removing minerals to reduce scale build up from happening in the first place. Some people think water softeners make hard water soft - based on chemistry - softeners exchange materials while conditioners focus on eliminating build ups at the source.

How does scale and fouling even happen?

Scale build up is affected by a few major factors including:

  • Temperature
  • Alkalinity or Acidity (pH)
  • Amount of mineral saturation
  • Influence of other materials in the water that may not cause scale but can impact the chemical structure of the water such as soil or oil.
  • Reduce Scaling

Eliminate calcium and mineral buildup, preventing scaling on fixtures, appliances, and plumbing systems.

  • Balance Biology

Prevent algae growth in aquatic environments, maintaining clearer water. Improve water quality for plants, livestock, and show animals, promoting better growth and overall vitality.

  • Protect Investments

Protect and extend the lifespan of water-based equipment and fixtures by minimizing corrosion and mineral accumulation.

  • Improve how your water works

Reduce the need for excessive soap, shampoo, and cleaning products and achieve a deeper clean, more lather, and better rinse.

  • moss took over pond

    Before

Fountain filled with algae before MagSert installation. Normally, it would have to be cleaned biweekly.

  • Pond after 10 days of water conditioning with magsert

    After Eight Weeks

Fountain eight weeks after MagSert installation. Algae is breaking apart and the water is clearing.

  • Pond after a year - clear of algae rom the magsert water conditioner

    One Year Later

Fountain one year later with MagSert still installed. Has not required any cleaning or maintenance.
